Reports have shown that some people who’ve taken the AstraZeneca vaccine had developed blood clots. Thus, a number of countries have temporarily suspended the use of this vaccine knowing that there are no proves that the vaccine was responsible for that.
The first country that halted the use of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine was Denmark after discovering blood clots in people who took it.
One participant has developed several blood clots upon receiving the first shot then died after 10 days.
Shortly afterwards, Bulgaria, Norway, Thailand, Congo, and Island have also suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Norwegian authorities declared that four of its citizens, who were the under age of 50, resulted in an unusual low number of blood platelets after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Similarly, both Netherlands and Ireland also declared that they will temporarily suspend the use of that vaccine.
With respect to France, its president Emmanuel Macron announced that his country will halt the use of AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine until the European health authority ‘EMA’ review it.
After that, Spain, Portugal , and Slovenia had also suspended the use of that coronavirus vaccine.
What was the repose of AstraZeneca community after all these suspensions ?
AstraZeneca announced that after carefully reviewing the data on about 17 million participant who received the AstraZeneca vaccine in Europe, there was no proof of an increased risk of blood clots.
Is there evidence that the vaccine is responsible?
EMA said that there is no evidence that the AstraZeneca vaccine lead to these results. It also added that the reports of blood clots for people who received the vaccine was not higher than those who didn’t receive it.
In Britain, 11 people out of 11 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine given, has developed blood clots after getting the shot knowing that it wasn’t proved that it was due to the vaccine.
Some doctors analyzed the situation by stating that as the vaccination campaigns launched by giving doses to the most vulnerable people, they are more likely to already have health problems. Hence, it was more difficult to figure out if the vaccine is responsible for developing the blood clots.
However, blood clots that are formed in arms or legs are very dangerous as they can sometimes break free and go towards the heart, brain or lungs which in return may lead to heart attacks, strokes, or blockage of blood flow.
What are experts advising?
Both the WHO and the EMA recommend that people should be immunized because the potential harm of not receiving the vaccine highly exceeds the minor risks of vaccinations.
