Should I take more than one type of Covid-19 vaccine?

As the pandemic of Covid-19 is still frustrating us, many questions regarding this issue come to our mind.

One of these questions is whether it is better to take more than one type of Covid-19 vaccine or it is enough to stick to one.

For the time being, there are around nine vaccines like Pfizer-BioTech, Moderna, Oxford-Astrazeneca which are proving their ability of preventing severe illness and death from this disease; however there are low supply of them.

Hopefully, in the future, we'll reach a stage where everyone who asks for the vaccine will be able to it get.

Hence, it's normal to wonder if taking more than one type of vaccine might boost our immune system against this disease.

Currently, Russia's Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology are working on mixing a dose of the Sputnik V vaccine with a booster dose of a similar vaccine produced by Astrazeneca along with the University of Oxford.

Another ongoing trial is trying to mix vaccines of AstraZeneca-Oxford and Pfizer-Biontech. In addition, there are many more trials which are still under discussion.

However, until the results show whether mixing between vaccines is effective or not, the US Centers for Disease Control and Preventions in addition to the Public Health England in the United Kingdom are discouraging people of taking this step.

In the past, researchers have done many trials of mixing and matching between vaccines of the same disease but very few showed positive results.

For example, they tried to mix HIV vaccines to boost the immune system but didn't succeed.

Also, upon the struggling from Ebola disease, Johnson & Johnson  introduced a vaccine which combined its preparation with another formulation produced by Bavarian Nordic but ended up with non-effective results.

Despite these results, most of people who are striving or asking to take another type of Covid-19 vaccination are those who had already infected by it.

Their infection was overwhelmed and exhausted the immune response thus their immune memory to the virus wasn't efficiently created so they want to protect themselves as much as possible through all means.

In conclusion, the debate of taking more than one type of Covid-19 vaccine isn't yet settled as the experiments are still ongoing.

However, what is more important at this stage is that although vaccination to this virus is a choice but taking it should be at the top of your priorities.

This is because history has demonstrated that vaccination saved lives much more than any medicine.
